Arcadia routed by Prairie du Chien to open legion baseball season

Arcadia Post 17 got off to an inauspicious start to a new summer of legion baseball with a lopsided loss to Prairie du Chien.

In the season opener for both teams, PdC Post 68 (1-0) rolled to a 12-2 victory over Arcadia (0-1) in five innings last Thursday at St. Feriole Island Ballpark in Prairie du Chien.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Arcadia evened things up in the top of the second thanks to Steve Meyer’s RBI groundout that brought home Max Sobotta, followed by a Logan Wenger RBI single.

However, that was as close as it would get the rest of the way. Prairie du Chien scored four runs in the second, five more in the third and a final run in the fourth en route to a mercy-rule victory.

Wenger, Deklyn Grzadzielewski and Tucker Bambenek each singled in the loss for Post 17.

The week ahead for Arcadia features a trio of home games against Whitehall Thursday at 5 p.m., La Crosse Post 52 Monday at 5 p.m. and West Salem Tuesday at 6 p.m.
