Arcadia volleyball takes down Viroqua to keep Coulee race close

Arcadia is back over .500 as the final weeks of the high school girls volleyball season approach.

The Raiders overpowered Viroqua last Thursday, improving to 9-8 on the season and remaining in the hunt in the Coulee Conference standings.

Arcadia (6-3 Coulee) visited Cochrane-Fountain City on Tuesday and is set to visit Westby—one of the two teams above them in the Coulee standings—this Thursday.

West Salem remains the only unbeaten (8-0) in conference play.

Coach Andrea Izdepski and the Raiders have now won three of their last four matches after stopping a four-match losing streak earlier this month.

The Raiders took both of the first two sets last Thursday, putting the match away early against the Blackhawks (6-7 overall, 4-5 Coulee) at home.

Viroqua made the Raiders sweat with a win in the third game, but Arcadia hung on to win the match in the fourth and final game.

Arcadia got a full team effort in the win, with multiple athletes filling the stats sheet.

Justine Sonsalla had a team-best 15 kills for the Raiders, and teammate Adella Anderson was busy passing the ball—Anderson finished with a match-high 34 assists.

Sammy Berg and Kaitlyn Bremer each had 26 digs to help keep Viroqua’s attack at bay and were helped by 18 more from Tatum Drazkowski.

Drazkowksi led Arcadia in blocks (five) and tied with Berg for the most aces (two).

Bryne Swenson of Viroqua led all players with 19 kills, and Elyse Neprud collected 15 assists for the Blackhawks.
