B-T’s Steien, Thompson earn all-state honors

The storied athletic careers of Lindsay Steien and Abby Thompson ended with more statewide honors.

The B-T seniors were named to the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Teams in Division Four and Five. Both also earned all-state honors in girls basketball as they led the team to the first ever state tournament appearance in that sport. 

The Wildcats fell one game short of the state tournament in softball, losing to Stratford in the sectional final to end the season with a 24-4 record. In the three years Thompson and Steien played for the Wildcats — their freshman seasons were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic — B-T went 78-6, advancing to the state tournament once and the sectional final twice.

This was the third year in which Steien earned first-team all-state honors. She led B-T at the plate with a .602 batting average as she hit 14 triples and was second on the team with 36 RBIs. She also stole 36 bases.

Thompson was third on the team with a .412 batting average, she batted in 28 runs and was second on the team with 23 stolen bases. Thompson earned honorable mention all-state honors last year. 

The two B-T seniors split time in the circle. Thompson went 13-1 with a 2.038 earned run average, striking out 117 batters with just 14 walks. Steien was 12-0 with a 1.0 eRA, striking out 92 batters with 21 walks. 

Both B-T players played in the WFSCA All-Star game on June 13, coached by their high school coach Greg Bratina. Joining them on the team were teammates Callie Wagner and Lexi Lofgren.
