B-T baseball team wins two of three in DC play

After losing a close pitcher’s duel on Tuesday, the Blair-Taylor baseball team rebounded with wins over Melrose-Mindoro and Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran last week.
Neither team had a hit through six innings of Tuesday’s game against Independence/Gilmanton, but the Indees struck first and shutout B-T 2-0 (see story elsewhere in Sports). The Wildcats rebounded, however, beating Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, 11-2, the next day before finishing the week with a 7-3 win over Mel-Min.
Weather permitting, the Wildcats were slated to play at Alma/Pepin on Tuesday of this week, Alma Center Lincoln on Thursday and Augusta on Friday. This coming Monday, they’re set to play at Osseo-Fairchild before welcoming Whitehall next Tuesday.
B-T 11 ECI 2
B-T came out swinging with nine runs in the first four innings.
The Lancers took the lead with a run in the top of the first, but a Jackson Shramek single tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Shramek then scored on a double by Zach Nitek and Nitek later stole home to put B-T ahead 3-1.
Nitek added another RBI in a two-run third inning for B-T. The Wildcats took advantage of six walks to score four in the third as they went ahead 9-1.
Shramek added another RBI in the fifth before Brayden Paulson had an RBI in the sixth to round out the scoring for B-T.
The Wildcats had nine hits in the game as Shramek and Nitek both went two-for-two with three RBIs. Ryan Flynn also had two RBIs.
Tavian Shramek got the win, tossing six innings with 11 strikeouts and three walks, while allowing five hits. Ryan Flynn closed out the game with a perfect seventh inning.
B-T 7 Mel-Min 3
After falling in an early hole, the Wildcats scored seven runs in the final three frames to get the win.
The Mustangs scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but B-T came on midway through the game.
The Wildcats cut into the lead with two runs on an error in the fourth. A double by Kyle Jahr tied the game in the fifth before Jackson Shramek tripled to give B-T a 4-3 lead. Shramek scored on a groundout by Nitek.
B-T added two more runs on errors in the bottom of the sixth.
Flynn was the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game with six hits, two walks and four strikeouts. He also led the team with two hits at the plate. Peyton Kelly had a team-hit two RBIs.
