B-T duo earns all-state honors

Blair-Taylor senior duo Lindsay Steien and Abby Thompson were both named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division Five All-State team, announced last week.

The duo helped lead the Wildcats to a 28-2 record and a state runner-up finish in the team’s first ever trip to the state tournament. They both were four-year varsity players who helped the Wildcats compile a 90-14 record with four conference titles in their high school careers.

Steien finished her career as one of the highest scorers in the history of the state with 2,407 points— eighth all-time. As a senior, she averaged 22.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.7 steals per game. Steien was an all-around player throughout her career totaling 612 rebounds, 539 assists and 352 steals. 

Thompson is the school’s second all-time leading scorer, totaling 1,651 career points while also amassing 547 steals and 514 assists. As a senior, Thompson averaged 18.2 points, 6.5 assists, 6.1 steals and four rebounds per game. 

Joining the two Wildcats on the all-state team were two players from the team that defeated B-T in the state championship game, Chippewa Falls McDonell Central’s Emily Cooper and Aubrey Dorn. Also named to the team were Raegan Borchard, Edgar; Alana Durtschi and Abby Hollis, Albany; Marnie Kahl; Prairie Farm; Addison Lavicka, Athens; Bailey Rikkola, Sevastopol and Sarah Shaw, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. 

Liza Cummings of Alma Center Lincoln was named honorable mention.
