B-T girls, Whitehall boys lead All-DC first teams

The two Dairyland Conference teams to represent their sports in the state tournament also had the most selections on the All-DC first teams.

The Blair-Taylor girls basketball team and Whitehall boys basketball team both had two first-team All-Dairyland Conference selections. The teams were picked prior to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament series. 

For B-T, Lindsay Steien and Abby Thompson were both picked for the All-DC first team. The Wildcats won the Dairyland Conference-Large Division and went 28-2 on the season, losing only to Alma Center Lincoln late in the regular season and Chippewa Falls McDonell Central in the state championship game. 

Steien led the conference in scoring, averaging 22.6 points per game, while Thompson was fourth, with 18.2. Thompson shot roughly 64 percent from the field, highest amongst all players with at least 100 field goal attempts. Steien was third at 51.7 percent.

Teammate Kierstyn Kindschy also earned all-conference honors, as she was honorable mention for the Wildcats. She averaged 7.9 points and was second on the team with 53 three pointers. 

For the Whitehall boys basketball team, seniors Devon McCune and Luke Beighley were All-DC first-team picks. The Norse went undefeated in conference play and finished the season with a 22-7 record, falling to Onalaska Luther in the state semifinal game last week (see story elsewhere in Sports).

McCune was second in the conference, averaging 17.2 points per game, while shooting 48.6 percent from the field. The senior finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Beighley was 10th in the conference with an average of 11 points per game, while also pulling down 7.7 rebounds each contest. 

Junior Brayden Lisowski was an honorable mention pick for the Norse after averaging 12.9 points per game and leading the team with 51 three pointers. 

Another Whitehall player, Norah Youngbauer was a first-team pick for the Whitehall girls basketball team. The senior guard was seventh in the conference, averaging 14 points per game. Teammate Olivia Killian was the conference’s leading rebounder, averaging 12 per contest to go with 11.6 points, she was an honorable mention selection. 

Independence’s Ahnna Bautch was also honorable mention after averaging 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

The rest of the All-DC girls first team includes: Jaden Bautch, Eleva-Strum; Liza Cummings, Alma Center Lincoln; Kennedy Korger, Augusta; Emma Mann, Lexi Pronschinske, Cochrane-Fountain City and Lilly Radcliffe, Melrose-Mindoro.

Blair-Taylor’s Evan Nehring led the DC-Large in points (18.5) and rebounds (10.8) per game as he was a first-team All-DC pick. Teammate Ethan Kniseley was honorable mention after averaging 13 points per game.

Independence’s Tyler Kingsbury was also honorable mention as he finished fourth in the conference, averaging 17.5 points per game. Hunter Guenther of Gilmanton led the DC-Small with an average of 22 points per game. 

Guenther was on the All-DC first team along with Andrew Bissen, C-FC; Vance Havemeier, Eau Claire Immanuel; Dominic McRoberts, Mel-Min; Jace Paul, ACL and Drew Seifert, A-P.
