Bautista seventh at Green Lake meet

Another meet, another top-10 finish for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau junior Adrian Bautista as the Red Hawks entered the final month of the cross country season.

Bautista posted a new personal best of 17 minutes, 30.9 seconds in a 5,000-meter race at last Friday’s Nightfall Classic 608, held at Tuscumbia Golf Course in Green Lake. That time left Bautista in seventh overall in the D2 boys’ race at the event, a race won by Berlin senior Thomas McCarthy with a time of 15 minutes, 55.2 seconds.

The Red Hawk boys finished in fifth in the team standings, buoyed by junior Carson Mayer in 23rd, junior AJ Earney in 37th, senior Carter Giemza in 40th and junior Cavin Spitzmacher in 43rd.

Kohler dominated its way to a first-place finish in the team standings with 31 points, well ahead of Waupun (84 points) in second.

The G-E-T girls, who were 11th in the team standings, had junior Isabella Tibbitts in 50th, sophomore Ruby Johnson in 53rd, sophomore Charlee McCutchen in 68th, senior Nora Higgins in 72nd and freshman Kinley Giemza in 79th.

Deerfield/Cambridge senior Emmerson Drobac was the only runner in the D2 girls race to finish in under 18 minutes, winning with a mark of 17 minutes, 59.4 seconds. Kettle Moraine Lutheran finished atop the team standings with 67 points, just ahead of Berlin (71 points) in second.
