Bulldogs bite Indees in season opener

The Independence/Gilmanton defense got a stop on Boyceville’s first possession, but the Bulldogs were efficient throughout the rest of the first half, opening up a 43-0 lead by halftime.

Boyceville was efficient through the air and the ground as quarterback Carson Roemhild had more touchdowns (four) than incompletions (three) in the game. The team had five players rush for more than 25 yards as it finished with 195 on the ground.

After an incomplete pass on fourth down ended Boyceville’s opening possession, they took the lead with a touchdown and two-point conversion the next time they had the ball. They ended up scoring three times with two-point conversions in the first quarter to take a 24-0 lead.

The Bulldogs didn’t slow down much in the second quarter, adding 19 points. They scored again early in the third to go ahead by the final score.

Carson Roemhild passed nine-for-12 with 140 yards and four touchdowns for Boyceville. Caden Wold caught four passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Braden Roemhild caught the other two touchdown passes. Zach Hellendrung led the team with 42 rushing yards on four carries. 

No statistics were reported for I/G. 

It won’t get much easier for the Indees this week as they host Cashton, which is coming off of a 39-6 win over Ithaca. The Eagles went 12-1 last season.

Next week, the Indees open Dairyland Conference play with a home game against Cochrane-Fountain City, one of two Dairyland Conference teams to win its opener on Friday.
