Dahl, Smock win events at SCC/Coulee Challenge
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau senior Sawyer Smock and Arcadia junior Jaylie Dahl each hope to be part of the equation at next month’s state track meet in La Crosse. This past weekend, both of them enjoyed a high level of success in the venue they hope to soon compete at on a grander stage.
Smock and Dahl each won events at the 2025 SCC/Coulee Challenge last Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex on the campus of UW–La Crosse.
Dahl was superb for the Raiders, winning the girls’ 200- and the 400-meter dashes. She also placed second in the 100. Arcadia junior Hermione Carreon took fifth in the discus throw.
The G-E-T girls had sophomore Josie Rupple in third in the shot put and a trio of fourth-place finishes: sophomore Claire Breidenbach in the 400, senior Jasmine Tarjeson in the 1,600 and senior Audrey Swenson in the 300-meter hurdles.
On the boys’ side, Smock defeated the rest of the pole vault field by clearing the bar at 13 feet. G-E-T sophomore Adrian Bautista placed second in the 1,600-meter run.
The Red Hawks had a slew of fourth-place finishes: sophomore Isaiah Carroll in the 100, junior Carter Giemza in the 400, senior Kyle Seiling in the long jump and senior Omar Jimenez in the triple jump. They also had fifth-place showings courtesy of senior Rion Waxlax in the 400, sophomore Carson Mayer in the 3,200-meter run and Seiling in the triple jump.
Arcadia senior Ted Teske led the way for the Raider boys, taking second in the high jump and third in both the 200-meter dash and the long jump. Fellow senior Andy Monroy was third in the 1,600-meter run and fourth in the 3,200-meter run.
Additionally for the Raiders, junior Jerson Sanchez came in fourth in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and junior Matthew Badillo took fifth in the 800-meter run.
