Eagles clip Indees in DC play
Pepin/Alma was in control pretty much from the start, scoring 36 points in the first half of a 42-0 home win over Independence/Gilmanton on Friday.
The Eagles totaled more than 300 yards on the ground, nearly averaging a first down with every attempt, and had six rushing touchdowns. The Indees got an early interception from Grant Klimek, but couldn’t get anything going offensively in the loss.
I/G fell to 0-3 on the season and will host Melrose-Mindoro this Friday. The Mustangs started the season strong with two wins, but are coming off of a 37-14 loss to Eleva-Strum last week.
Next week I/G will head to Whitehall to continue one of the oldest rivalries in the area.
P/A 42 I/G 0
The Eagles were a popular preseason pick to continue their Dairyland Conference dominance and it was easy to see why on Friday.
P/A ran for 312 yards on 32 attempts — an average of 9.8 yards per carry — while crossing the goal line six times against I/G. The Eagles had two touchdowns in the first quarter then took control of the game with three more in the second. They added a sixth in the third quarter to go ahead 42-0.
Despite the high team total, no P/A player ran for more than 100 yards. Justin Bergmann led the team with 86 on six carries, Emmet Hoffer and Owen Post both had 56 rushing yards.
The Indees struggled at the line of scrimmage, running for 32 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback Chase Back led the team with 23 yards on 14 attempts. He also completed three-of-15 passes for 23 yards and a pair of interceptions. Blake Slaby caught two passes for 19 yards.
