Cashton controlled the line of scrimmage and got help with five Independence/Gilmanton turnovers in a 55-0 win in Independence on Friday night.

The Eagles got the scoring started with a one-yard touchdown run by Brady Hemmersbach on their first possession. After an I/G punt, Connor Butzler broke free for a 39-yard touchdown, the extra point was missed, but the Eagles had a 13-0 lead.

Cashton would score two more times before the end of the first quarter. The first came after a fumbled snap gave the Eagles the ball deep in I/G territory and Brett Hemmersbach ran for an 11-yard touchdown. The Eagles got the ball back again and the same player scored again, running for a 49-yard touchdown. Cashton made two of four extra point attempts in the quarter as they took a 27-0 lead into the second.

Butzler found the end zone again in the second quarter, this time taking a punt back 72 yards for a score. The two-point conversion made the score 35-0. Brett Hemmersbach scored on a 25-yard run to make the score 41-0 and Drew Butzler added a two-yard touchdown that put Cashton ahead 47-0 at halftime.

Ethan Schmitz scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter and the ensuing two-point conversion made the final score 55-0.

Cashton finished with 278 yards in the game, all of which came on the ground as they failed to complete any of their four passes. Brett Hemmersbach ran for 105 yards on five carries.

The Indees struggled offensively, rushing for just 68 yards on 28 attempts and completing one-of-seven passes for four yards. They lost four fumbles and had an interception. Individual statistics for I/G were not reported prior to press time.

The Indees (0-2) open Dairyland Conference play at home against Cochrane-Fountain City (1-1) this week. They’ll play at Eleva-Strum next week.
