Fall sports season underway

Another high school sports season is already underway as area football teams were able to begin practice on Tuesday of this week.

This Tuesday was the first day football teams could practice or hand out equipment, according to Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regulations. They are able to scrimmage on Aug. 10 with the first slate of games set for Aug. 17. None of the area teams will play until the first Friday night of the season, Aug. 18. Arcadia will be the only home team in the Times coverage area that week as it hosts Osseo-Fairchild. Blair-Taylor will play at Onalaska Luther, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau at Mondovi, Independence/Gilmanton at Boyceville and Whitehall at Colfax.

Girls golf practices can begin this coming Monday, but don’t have to wait nearly as long for competition. Both the Arcadia and G-E-T teams will play at Skyline Golf Course on Aug. 11.

Cross country and volleyball teams can begin practice on Aug. 14. 

The first cross country meets will be on Aug. 26 when Independence/Gilmanton runs at Cashton and G-E-T competes in West Salem. Arcadia will compete in Wabasha, Minn. on Aug. 28 while the Blair-Taylor and Whitehall seasons start on Aug. 31 at the Brone Invitational at Cochrane-Fountain City.

B-T and I/G will begin volleyball play on Aug. 22 at Elmwood while Arcadia and G-E-T play in a tournament at Onalaska the following day. The first listed competition for Whitehall is a Sept. 7 match at Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran.
