G-E-T boys second at Brone Invitational

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau boys cross country team had two top-10 finishers as it took second in the team standings at the Jesse Brone Invitational hosted by Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday. 

Bangor, with six of the top 12 finishers, took first with 38 points, 15 better than G-E-T. Xander Burmiester took fifth for the Red Hawks, finishing about 28 seconds after race champion Jack Laufenberg of Melrose-Mindoro. 

Adrian Bautista was second on G-E-T and eighth overall. The Red Hawks had three consecutive finishers as Sawyer Smock finished 14th, less than a second ahead of AJ Earney while Carter Giemza was 16th, rounding out the scoring for G-E-T. Quinn O’Neill finished 26th and Liam Caya was 32nd for the Red Hawks. 

G-E-T was well ahead of the rest of the field as Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran took third with 109 points. 

Whitehall took sixth in the team standings. Nolan Thompson led the team, taking 22nd overall while Ashton Hanson was 27th; Titus Buhl, 29th; Theo Mikesell, 41st; Oriah Anderson, 48th and Sawyer Herrick, 77th.

Jacob Olson took 19th for B-T, which finished right behind Whitehall in the team standings. He was followed by Ryan Flynn, 21st; Anthony Oldendorf, 44th; Thomas Brandt, 52nd; Riley Gunderson, 61st Billy Miller, 73rd and Wyatt Schrock, 75th.

Independence/Gilmanton also competed in the race, but had just one runner, Charlie Baize, who finished 51st. 

The top individual finisher amongst Times area schools was I/G’s Taylor Sylla, who was fourth in the girls’ race. Sylla finished close to two minutes behind meet champion and defending Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division Three individual champion Addy Duellman of C-FC.

The Indees had two other top-25 finishers as Gracie Rombalski was 13th and Sophia Kampa finished 21st, but they were seventh out of eight teams in the standings. Angie Martinez and Leah Sylla rounded out the scoring for the Indees, finishing 46th and 47th. Hannah Gierok also competed for I/G, taking 69th. 

G-E-T was the top finisher amongst area schools, taking fifth overall. Adrianna Rotering led the team with a sixth-place finish followed by AJ Parker, 15th; Anya Wolfe, 28th; Bella Tibbits, 33rd; Reyna Garcia, 37th; Ellie Gold, 40th and Ava Roessler, 54th.

B-T competed, but did not have enough runners to qualify for the team standings. Jadrean Borreson took 35th to lead the Wildcats, one spot better than Kelsey Lien while Emmalee Johnson took 53rd and Ella Halverson was 63rd. 

Bangor swept the meet as its girls team scored 64 points, six better than Onalaska Luther. The defending Division Three champions, C-FC, took third with 95. While Duellman returns, the Pirates graduated three seniors from the state title-winning team.
