G-E-T drops pair in Winona
The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau girls basketball team’s hunt for a win will push forward into the new year after the Red Hawks dropped their final two games of 2025 at a holiday tournament.
G-E-T (0-10) lost to a pair of Minnesota opponents at last week’s Lewiston Auto Holiday Classic, where they faced both Lewiston-Altura and La Crescent-Hokah at Winona State University’s McCown Gymnasium.
The Red Hawks now shift their focus to the heart of conference play, where they will host Viroqua on Thursday at 7 p.m. and hit the road to take on Black River Falls next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

A slow start ultimately doomed G-E-T to a lopsided loss at the hands of the Cardinals last Monday in Winona.
The Red Hawks stumbled out of the gates, trailing 26-8 just eight minutes into the proceedings. They eventually settled in and played much more competitive basketball to whittle into their deficit a bit and trailed 13 early in the second half, but Lewiston-Altura eventually pulled away for good down the stretch.
G-E-T sophomore Caydie Thompson tallied 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting while also pulling in eight rebounds to come close to a double-double. Fellow sophomore Alexis Ouellette went 9 of 12 from the free-throw line on her way to 11 points. Sophomore Claire Baures reeled in five rebounds as well.

A double-double courtesy of Caydie Thompson wasn’t enough for the Red Hawks to keep pace with the Lancers last Tuesday in Winona.
A pair of long-range buckets from Baures kept the Red Hawks within 8-6 about six minutes into the first half, but La Crescent-Hokah soon raced away for a convincing win. G-E-T went 0 of 11 from 3-point range outside of those two early makes by Baures.
Thompson posted her double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, senior Lexi James chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds to nearly register a double-double as well and Baures finished with eight points and six rebounds.
