G-E-T football beaten by state-ranked Ellsworth

The Ellsworth Panther football team is currently ranked No. 2 in Division Four in the wissports.net coaches poll, and they showed they are worthy of the ranking last Friday in a 53-8 win over Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau.

Ellsworth scored touchdowns on defense, on special teams, through the air and on the ground in the win, as the visiting Red Hawks fell to 1-4 this season.

G-E-T plays at Altoona on Friday, the first Coulee Conference game between the two teams as the Rails joined the conference last fall.  Altoona if 4-1 on the season, coming off of a 33-14 win over Viroqua.

Ellsworth opened the scoring just a few minutes in with an interception return for a touchdown, and followed it up four minutes later with a 51-yard touchdown pass.

They scored twice in the second quarter on a run and a fumble recovery to take a 30-0 lead into halftime. They added three more touchdowns in the second half. One of those was a 52-yard kickoff return to begin the half. Two more touchdowns opened up a 53-0 lead.

G-E-T got its lone score from junior running back Nate Schindler on a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter. Schindler finished with 94 yards on 17 carries.

Other aspects of the offense weren’t as productive. 

The other three Red Hawks to run the ball on Friday combined for -10 yards on 12 carries. Junior quarterback Ben Hilton finished the day 20-of-39 with 129 yards and two interceptions. 

Wide receivers Cody Schmitz and Brady Seiling each hauled in seven catches for the Red Hawks.
