G-E-T golfers second at Coulee meet

Only one team was able to beat the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School girls golf team in a Coulee Conference meet last Thursday.

The Red Hawks shot a 202 as a team, the second-best score of the day behind Westby (184) at the par-34 Grove Golf Course in Cochrane.

This week will see G-E-T play more Trempealeau County golf, beginning with a meet in Arcadia on Monday and followed by a home meet at Ettrick Golf Course on Thursday.

CC at C-FC

Senior Alexis Murphy led the way for G-E-T with her 11-over par 45 last Thursday, good for the fourth-best score of the day. 

Maddi Fletcher of Westby shot a medalist’s round with a 37, enough to outpace a 40 from Black River Falls’ Zowie Hunter.

Anna Motszko tied for eighth with a 50, and teammate Jada Schmitt was one stroke behind her with a 51.

Junior Claire Wagner added a 56 for the Red Hawks, which also got matching 59s from sophomore Jazlynn Olson and senior Chloe Applin to round out their scores.

Black River Falls shot a 205 as a team to take third, while Cochrane-Fountain City didn’t have enough golfers to post a team score.

Colfax Invite

Murphy again paced G-E-T in their first competition of last week, a 14-team invitational in Colfax.

Murphy cracked the top 10, placing ninth individually by shooting a 95 at the par-71 track. 

Altoona-Regis took the team title at the event with a 365, and the top five was rounded out by Saint Croix Central (381), Ellsworth (404), Eau Claire Memorial (407) and Colfax-Elk Mound (410).

The Red Hawks finished eighth as a team with their 438, also behind Bloomer at 417 and conference foe Black River Falls’ 427.

Karalynn Skinner helped Altoona-Regis take the team title by earning medalist honors with the day’s best round, a 2-over par 73.

Motszko shot a 105 for the Red Hawks’ second-best score at the event. Wagner and Schmitt each shot a 119, and Applin scored a 124.
