G-E-T hammers Viroqua, BRF

Though it was mostly a formality at that point, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau boys basketball team was officially eliminated from a chance at winning a share of the Coulee Conference title with West Salem finishing off their perfect conference record last week. However, the Red Hawks continued to work their way toward the end of the regular season on a positive note with a pair of lopsided wins.

G-E-T (19-4, 9-2 Coulee) blew past both Viroqua and Black River Falls last week and ends the regular season with a road clash against the Luther Knights this Thursday at 7 p.m. in Onalaska.

The Red Hawks were awarded a No. 2 seed in their half of a Division Three sectional in the upcoming postseason. Following a first-round bye, they are set to face either No. 7 seed Amherst or No. 10 seed Westfield next Friday.

After throttling Viroqua (4-17, 1-8) at home last month, the rematch was much the same for G-E-T.

For the second time last week, G-E-T finished off a season sweep by rolling past Black River Falls (7-14, 1-9) last Friday at Russ Lund Gymnasium.

The Red Hawks, who steamrolled past the Tigers 82-44 in Black River Falls last month, dealt with BRF hanging around for most of the first half before using a 13-3 run to open up a 37-25 halftime advantage that they held onto in the second half.

Brone led the charge for G-E-T with 23 points, Fabian had 18 points and four rebounds, Theisen recorded 12 points and eight rebounds and Thell added eight points and 12 rebounds.

For the Tigers, junior Braylon Backaus scored a game-high 25 points and junior Mason Meimann finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
