G-E-T volleyball coach steps down

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau volleyball coach Kate Kubicek has stepped down, the Times learned last week.

Kubicek declined to comment on her reason for resigning.

G-E-T High School principal Troy White and athletic director Rick Schmidt have assumed the head coaching duties for the remainder of the season, which includes three regular season games, a tournament and the playoffs.

The search for a new coach will begin within a month after the season ends, White told the Times on Sunday. The position could be tied to a new teacher hire this summer, depending on qualifications and interest in the job.

“It’s just like any other (coaching) position.” White said. “Once the seasons are done, if I take the coach hat off and I’m back to being the principal, at the end of the year we do evaluations of all our coaches, anybody who’s leaving us or we know that those are going to be opening, then we go into our superintendent, through our school board, and make a recommendation for posting it (the job).”

The Red Hawks sit at 1-9 ahead of this week’s games after earning their first win over Black River Falls last Tuesday. They play West Salem on Thursday.
