GMC secures second straight sectional title

For a second straight winter, the G-E-T/Mel-Min/C-FC co-op is headed to Wisconsin Rapids for the state gymnastics tournament as a team on the heels of a sectional title triumph.

GMC emerged victorious as a team at last Friday’s Division 2 sectional meet in Reedsburg, narrowly beating out Sparta for the team title.

Consistency was critical to their latest sectional championship, as GMC finished first out of the eight competing teams in the floor exercise with a score of 34.7, second in the vault (34.475) and uneven bars (32.0) and fourth in the balance beam (32.775).

Altogether, the GMC co-op posted a team score of 133.375 to eke past runner-up Sparta’s mark of 133.325. Both GMC and Sparta advance to the team competition at this weekend’s state meet.

“The biggest keys were consistency, composure, and our energy. We did a great job staying steady event-to-event, minimizing mistakes, and responding well when something didn’t go perfectly,” said GMC co-head coach Carley Boos. “We started on floor, which is a real energy booster for us — it gets the girls excited, and they really get to show off their personalities out there. Everyone was locked in and supporting each other the whole night, and it was a total team effort. Every score mattered.”

In addition to team qualification, the top five individual scores in the all-around standings and the top five in each of the four events punched their tickets to compete in the individual component of the state tournament.

GMC’s Jayden Thill slotted in third in the all-around standings with a total score of 35.7, trailing only Sparta’s Gabrielle Bjorkman (36.7) in first and the Westby co-op’s Peyton Sprosty (35.7) in second.

Thill tied for second in the floor exercise (9.1) and was fifth in both the vault (8.55) and bars (8.475) to help set the pace for her team. Bjorkman took first in all four events for the Spartans.

Reesa Beilke also earned an individual state spot by placing third in the vault with her score of 8.7. She also tied for sixth in the bars (8.375) and was ninth in the floor exercise (8.525). Kinley Giemza’s score of 8.8 in the floor exercise was good enough for sixth overall. Beilke (33.525) and Giemza (32.925) finished in eighth and 10th, respectively, in the all-around standings.

With Izabella Bear, Elleigh Gilliland and Margo Foust also competing for a small but strong GMC squad, they found the right combination to bring home another sectional championship plaque.

“Winning sectionals two years in a row is a pretty big accomplishment, especially with almost a brand-new team. Morgan (Siekert) and I are really proud of our athletes and everything they’ve accomplished this year,” Boos said. “We’re a small, young team, but they’ve practiced hard, kept showing up and brought their best to every meet. For us, stacking success means building confidence one competition at a time and showing our younger athletes that you can do hard things. When you stay consistent and keep putting in the work, the results start to follow.”

The 2026 WIAA State Gymnastics Championships take place this weekend at the Lincoln High School Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Rapids. The team competition is Friday starting at noon and the individual competition follows on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
