Indee boys drop two in DC play

The Independence/Gilmanton boys basketball team gave up big runs in the first half of both of its losses last week.

The Indees responded to a 20-0 run made in the first half by Eleva-Strum last Thursday and actually took a lead into halftime. However, the Cardinals went on another run in the second half and went on to win by 19. I/G couldn’t get going offensively against Alma/Pepin on Friday, managing eight points in the first half of a 68-33 loss.

The losses dropped I/G to 0-6 on the season before Monday’s game at Cashton. The Indees will play at home against Cornell this coming Monday and at Boyceville next Friday.

E-S regained the lead on a three-pointer and were still ahead by three at 25-22 before Nolan Schank scored for I/G and Josh Iverson hit a three right before the first half buzzer sounded to put I/G ahead 27-25 at halftime.

The teams were close early in the second half, but the Cardinals went on an 18-1 run to go ahead by 18. The Indees battled, but the Cardinals maintained control in the second half.

Iverson scored 15 points on five three-pointers to lead the Indees while Schank scored 11 and pulled down 15 rebounds.
