Indees fall to DC’s top teams

The Independence/Gilmanton volleyball team’s regular season concluded with a tough slate, playing the top two teams in the Dairyland Conference.
On Tuesday of last week, the Indees were swept by Cochrane-Fountain City, the team that finished second in the DC with an 8-1 conference record and 22-7 overall mark. C-FC’s only conference loss came to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, which finished DC play undefeated and went 25-10 overall on the season, including a 3-0 win over the Indees on Thursday. I/G (7-12, 3-6) opened Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tournament play at C-FC on Tuesday of this week. The Pirates are the sixth-seed and the Indees the 11th in their Division Four bracket. The winner will play the winner of the match between (3) Stevens Point Pacelli and (14) Greenwood on Thursday with the regional final set for Saturday.

The Pirates controlled the match throughout, winning three sets by an average of 10 points.
Kassidi Dejno led the Indees with five kills while Nora Schank added four and Adison Pronschinske, Emma Cowen, Makiyah Scow and Shauna Dejno all had two. Adison Pronchinske handled most of the setting with 12 assists.
Arabelle Kniseley had three service aces to lead the team and Cowen had one.
Defensively, Kniseley, Jasmine Montalvo and Kylynn Kennedy all had nine digs, Pronschinske added eight, Schank and Kassidi Dejno had three and Cowen finished with two. Kassidi Dejno also had the team’s only block.
