Norse buffaloed by Mondovi in regional

Whitehall got off to a strong start offensively, but couldn’t maintain it as their girls basketball season ended last week Tuesday.
The Norse hit a few three pointers early and their defense forced turnovers that led to layups, but Whitehall’s defense had its struggles as Mondovi led 48-30 at halftime and broke the game open for a 74-48 win in the second half.
Whitehall finished the season with a 9-18 record and will graduate four seniors, including all-conference selection Norah Youngbauer.

Avery Sonsalla made two three pointers early and Youngbauer added another as Whitehall stuck with Mondovi in the opening minutes.
However, the Norse had a difficult time breaking the Buffaloes’ full court pressure defense. Whitehall struggled with turnovers that led to easy baskets for Mondovi. The Buffaloes got a couple of three pointers from Cassie Thompson in the first half as they took a 48-30 lead into halftime.
Mondovi settled down in the second half, limiting turnovers, but the Norse began to struggle offensively. Mondovi continued to extend its lead and won by nearly 30 points.
Three Mondovi players finished in double figures. Thompson led the team with 19 points, including five three pointers. Maddy marten added 18 and Shaelee DeWitt chipped in with 12.
Mondovi had 78 field goal attempts in the fast-paced game as they pulled down 46 rebounds and had 19 steals.
Whitehall statistics were not reported to the Times.
