The Whitehall baseball team scored first in both of its games last week but ended up on the losing end.
The Norse took a 2-0 lead in Monday’s contest at Independence/Gilmanton, but the Indees won, 4-2 (see story elsewhere in Sports). On Thursday, Whitehall scored in the bottom of the second, but Osseo-Fairchild pulled away late for a 10-2 win.
Whitehall (1-4) was set to host Alma/Pepin on Tuesday before welcoming Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday and Cadott on Friday. This coming Monday, the team is slated to play at Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran.
O-F 10 Whitehall 2
The Norse scored early, but couldn’t keep up with the Thunder.
Riley Herman was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the second and came around to score on a single by Deacon Steig to put Whitehall ahead 1-0.
The lead didn’t last long as the Thunder responded with three runs in the top of the third. Whitehall got one back in the bottom half of the inning as Grayson Pronschinske walked and scored on a groundout, but it was all O-F from then on.
The Thunder added an insurance run in the top of fourth then pulled away with two in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Luke Matejka took the loss, striking out two while walking three and giving up four hits in five innings. Will Youngbauer pitched the last two frames, allowing one walk and five hits.
Whitehall had three hits at the plate with three different players hitting singles.
