Norse softball team loses two in DC play
The Whitehall softball team was close to earning a split last week, but a late rally fell just short and the team went 0-2.
The Norse fell behind Cochrane-Fountain City early in an 11-3 loss last Tuesday. On Friday, Whitehall had a lead late, but allowed seven runs in the top of the seventh. Whitehall rallied with four in the bottom of the seventh, but came up one run short in a 9-8 loss.
The losses put Whitehall’s record at 1-7 overall before the team played a doubleheader against Alma Center Lincoln on Tuesday. On Thursday, the team hosts Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran before playing at Eleva-Strum on Friday.

The Pirates scored eight runs in the first two innings to take control.
Two hit batters got Whitehall off to a rough start before two runs scored on groundouts and another on a single.
Whitehall answered in the bottom of the first as Karli Molis and Addison Poeschel hit consecutive RBI singles to bring their team within a run. But, that’s as close as they’d get.
Two more hit batters, a walk and an error hurt the Norse in the second as C-FC eventually connected on two straight RBI singles that put them ahead 8-2.
The Pirates added three more runs in the sixth.
Whitehall had five hits from five different players.
Kelsie Klomsten took the loss, pitching the first two innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while hitting four batters and striking out four. Regan Clatt threw the last five innings, striking out three while allowing three hits and four walks.

Whitehall rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but came up just short.
Whitehall’s big inning came just after O-F scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to pull ahead 9-4.
The Norse began the bottom of the seventh with three straight singles before Kelsie Klomsten drove in two runs with a single. Taylor Johnson drove in two more to bring Whitehall within one. The tying run was on third, but a flyout ended the game.
The Thunder scored two in the top of the first, but Whitehall tied the score on a double by Johnson in the bottom half of that inning.
Johnson was 4 for 5 with four RBIs in the game. Ziva Rose also had four hits while Karli Molis and Regan Clatt both had two.
Clatt took the loss in the circle, striking out five while allowing 12 hits and two walks.
