Norse split DC matches, win one at O-F tourney

The Whitehall volleyball team split a pair of Dairyland Conference matches and won one at a tournament at Osseo-Fairchild last week.

Whitehall was even with Eleva-Strum through two sets last week Tuesday, but the Cardinals won the third and fourth for a 3-1 win. The Norse had little trouble sweeping Alma Center Lincoln on Thursday. The team started with a win at the O-F tournament on Saturday, but then dropped three.

The Norse began this week with a record of 8-6 and 5-2 in Dairyland Conference play — behind Cochrane Fountain City (6-1) and Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran (7-0). They were set to play at Alma/Pepin on Tuesday of this week and at home against Cochrane-Fountain City on Thursday, closing out the regular season. 

Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association play is set to begin next week with Whitehall playing in Division Three, though the brackets had yet to be released as of Monday of this week.

The Norse evened the match with a win in the second set, but the Cardinals won the next two.

The teams split the first two sets with 25-21 scores before E-S snuck out a three-point win in the third to go ahead 2-1. They finished the match with a 25-19 win. 

Aryana Ausderau led Whitehall with 11 kills while Olivia Killian had eight and four blocks. Harlow Foss added three kills, Ashlyn Clatt had two and Kelsie Klomsten, Trinity Aasen and Hailey Przybilla all had one. Aasen also added two blocks while Przybilla, Clatt and Foss all had one. 

Kyla Lambeck led the team with 13 set assists, Przybilla added 10. 

Kylee Estenson led the team at the service line with three aces, Sophia Skoyen and Clatt both had two while Foss and Lambeck had one. 

Clatt had a team-high nine digs, while Brinna Goplin, Lambeck and Skoyen all added seven.

The Norse did more than win on the court in a sweep of the Hornets.

Whitehall’s “Dig Pink” night raised approximately $600 for the Trempealeau County Relay for Life as the team donned pink shirts, socks and shoelaces, which were donated by HV Acres in memory of Nolan Goplin.

Though, the performance on the court was also noteworthy as Whitehall took control with a 14-point win in the first set then held on to win two close sets for the sweep.

The Norse had a balanced attack at the net as Ausderau led the team with seven kills while Killian added five; Foss, four; Clatt and Aasen, three; Klomsten, two and Lambeck and Przybilla both had one. Aasen and Killian both had one block.

Lambeck led the team with 10 assists, Przybilla added seven. Lambeck also led the team at the service line with five aces while Skoyen, Goplin and Przybilla all had two, Herman and Foss both had one ace. 

Goplin was active defensively with 13 digs, while Przybilla added nine.

Killian was a force at the net as the Norse escaped by winning a close third set.

The Whitehall senior had 12 kills and three blocks in the match. Ausderau added eight kills while Aasen and Foss both had three and Klomsten finished with two. Aasen added three blocks, while Klomsten and Clatt both had one.

Lambeck led the team with 13 assists and Przybilla added 10. 

Herman and Killian both had three aces. Lambeck, Skoyen and Estenson all had one ace. 

Goplin led the team with 11 digs.

Whitehall’s DC rivals took control in the first set then finished the sweep with a close win.

The Norse were slowed down at the net as Killian and Clatt both had four kills to lead the team. Ausderau and Foss both added two while Herman and Aasen had one. Whitehall didn’t record a block in the match. Przybilla and Lambeck both had four assists. 

Herman had four aces to lead the team, Przybylla had one. 

Goplin and Lambeck both had seven digs.

The Warriors controlled the match, winning two sets by a combined 15 points.

Auderau led Whitehall with six kills while Killian added four, Aasen, three; Przybilla, two and Clatt, Foss and Klomsten, one. Lambeck led the team with seven assists. 

Goplin had both of Whitehall’s aces in the match.

Killian and Foss both recorded blocks for the Norse and Przybilla led the team with 11 digs.

After Whitehall controlled the first set, the Mustangs evened the match then won a close third set.

Killian led Whitehall with eight kills and two blocks. Auserdau added five kills; Foss and Klomsten, four; Aasen, three; Vivian Kulig and Clatt, two. Both Lambeck and Przybilla had nine assists. 

Skoyen led the team with three aces, Herman added two and Lambeck had one. 

Lambeck had a team-high 14 digs, Goplin added 12 and Herman finished with 10.
