Raider football falls to Altoona

A Trempealeau County rivalry and the chance to play spoiler awaits the Arcadia High School football team this week.

Arcadia fell 60-14 on Friday at the hands of conference foe Altoona, a loss that puts the Raiders outside the playoff picture. But with the Raiders set to host G-E-T on Friday, the rivalry could still have playoff implications.

Arcadia falls to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the Coulee Conference with the loss. Four conference wins qualifies a team for the playoffs. They’ll get set to play G-E-T (4-4, 4-2 Coulee) which has won four of its last five games.

With a win this week, the Red Hawks will have an argument for a home playoff game at the playoff seeding meeting next week after their win over Westby last week qualified them for the postseason. Arcadia will look to hamper that argument.

Altoona collected 295 and five scores on the ground against the Raiders and added a pair of interceptions on defense. A trio of passing touchdowns in just five completions solidified the big win for the Railroaders.
