Raiders lose to West Salem in weather-shortened contest
In a game that didn’t even make it through one full quarter, West Salem scored a pair of touchdowns to earn an abbreviated victory.
The Panthers (4-1, 3-0 Coulee) blanked the Raiders (3-2, 1-2) 13-0 in their Coulee Conference clash last Friday in West Salem, where early scoring proved to be all the difference needed with inclement weather moving through southwestern Wisconsin.
After forcing a quick three and out, West Salem drove right down the field and scored midway through the first quarter on Drew McConkey’s six-yard touchdown pass to Spencer Kammel for a 6-0 lead.
Another Raider punt after a three and out gave the Panthers good starting field position near midfield. McConkey and Kammel connected again on a 40-yard touchdown pass as the Panthers surged ahead 13-0.
Right after that second Panther touchdown and with 4:19 left in the first quarter, the game was delayed due to lightning in the area. That lightning delay turned into a lengthier delay as the storms, and the steady downpour that came with them, rolled into West Salem.
Following an hour delay and no sign of the rain slowing down, the game was called and West Salem was awarded the victory. Arcadia stats were not made available following a brief game where each team only had two drives.
