Raiders turn aside Eleva-Strum, swept by BRF
Though they started the week on a promising note with a decisive non-conference win over Eleva-Strum, the Arcadia baseball team suffered a setback with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Black River Falls.
Coming up on the docket for the Raiders (5-6, 2-4 Coulee) is a road game against Viroqua Thursday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a home game against G-E-T on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and a road tilt with La Crosse Logan Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Arcadia 10 E-S 3
A strong day for the Arcadia offense powered them to a non-conference win over the Cardinals (4-5) this past Tuesday in Arcadia.
The Raiders got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with Caleb Pronschinske and Max Sobotta each hitting RBI singles to help them lurch ahead 3-0. The floodgates flew open in the third with Arcadia’s six-run rally that featured Max Blaschko’s RBI double and Deklyn Grzadzielewski’s RBI single.
Sobotta, Pronschinske and Austin Hughes each recorded two hits apiece at the plate. Carter Wegman allowed two runs (one earned) and fanned seven in 4 2/3 innings of work.
BRF 6 Arcadia 5
A valiant comeback attempt didn’t quite have enough juice as the Raiders fell just short in a loss to the Tigers (6-5, 3-3) during their doubleheader last Thursday in Arcadia.
Having fallen behind 6-1, Arcadia made its move in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run burst that included Grzadzielewski’s bases-loaded walk and Login Scow’s RBI single. Black River Falls escaped the jam with two runners on to preserve a one-run lead and didn’t allow another Arcadia runner in scoring position over the final two innings.
Though they scored five runs, the Raiders’ only hit in the game was Scow’s fifth-inning single.
BRF 4 Arcadia 2
A sixth-inning rally by the Tigers turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 victory as part of their Coulee doubleheader against the Raiders last week in Arcadia.
Grzadzielewski scored in the top of the first and a Wegman leadoff double in the fifth eventually led to him scoring on Scow’s sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. However, a trio of Arcadia errors in the bottom of the sixth helped aid Black River Falls in a four-run inning that proved to be the difference.
The four runs allowed by Scow in his six innings on the mound were all unearned. He struck out six while giving up one hit and three walks.
