Red Hawk boys win C-FC cross country meet

Thanks to five runners finishing inside the top 17, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau boys lapped the rest of the competition at their most recent cross country meet.

The Red Hawks compiled a team score of 56 points to finish atop the boys’ standings at last Thursday’s Jesse Brone Invitational, hosted by Cochrane-Fountain City. Runner-up Durand had 76 points.

G-E-T’s Adrian Bautista slotted into third place with his time of 17 minutes, 12 seconds, behind only Durand’s Conner Davidson (17:01.0) in first and Zayne Richardson (17:10.0) in second. The Red Hawks also had Carson Mayer in ninth, Ayden Aschenbrener in 12th, Connor McDonnell in 15th and AJ Earney in 17th.

Blair-Taylor finished in eighth in the boys’ team standings, led by Alek Sygula with a fifth-place showing. The Wildcats also had Landen Kidd in 31st, Robbie Brant in 64th, Caiden Lien in 65th and Billy Miller in 77th.

Kole Kulig registered a top-10 finish by crossing the line in seventh for Whitehall, who came in 11th as a team. The Norse also featured Christopher Mann in 43rd, Ashton Hanson in 45th, Colby Santos in 76th and Eli Washkuhn in 91st.

Independence/Gilmanton did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score, though the Indees did have Owen Gierok in 28th, Jaydan Harz in 68th and Maddox Pronschinske in 84th.

The G-E-T girls were fourth in the team standings with 106 points. The host Pirates comfortably finished in first on the girls’ side with 27 points, well ahead of Bangor (96) in second.

The Red Hawks were led by Bella Tibbits in 18th and Ruby Johnson in 19th, followed by Nora Higgins in 32nd, Charlee McCutchen in 38th and Lily Graham in 41st.

Though they didn’t have enough runners for the team standings, the Indees did have a quartet of top-15 finishers: Taylor Sylla in third, Allie Sylla in fifth, Sophie Kampa in seventh and Anna Kent in 15th. Only C-FC’s Addy Duellman (18:43.6) and Paxtyn Duellman (19:13.5) crossed the finish line ahead of Taylor Sylla.

Whitehall’s runners were Lexi Kurth in 17th, Keymileth Mojica Zay in 66th and Marisol Guzman in 68th. Blair-Taylor had Jadrean Borreson in 22nd, Kelsey Lien in 34th and Ally Jorgenson in 63rd.

Conrad, Badillo run for Raiders in Verona

The Arcadia duo of senior Alec Conrad and junior Nathan Badillo made the trip down to the Madison area this past weekend to compete in a jampacked cross country meet.

Conrad and Badillo were the only two Raider runners to take part in last Saturday’s Verona Invitational just southwest of Madison. Runners from all over Wisconsin converge for the annual invite on a new course that, according to Verona head coach Randy Marks, is meant to mirror the course at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids (where the state meet is run) in terms of difficulty.

Runners from schools of every size competed together in the same 5K race, with results compiled both together and separated out into three divisions. Conrad finished 104th overall and 17th among division three runners while Badillo took 133rd overall and 24th in division three.

Arcadia and all other Trempealeau County schools will next take part in a meet at Ettrick Golf Course on Thursday, with the girls’ race starting at 5:15 p.m. and the boys’ race to follow at 5:50 p.m.
