Red Hawks back to winning record in CC with trumping of Altoona
Last Friday was another banner day for the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School football team in the running game.
The Red Hawks collected nearly 380 yards on the ground in a 42-14 home win over Altoona, a victory that ties G-E-T for third in the Coulee Conference standings at 3-2, behind only unbeaten Aquinas and West Salem.
Westby (5-2 overall, 3-2 Coulee) visits G-E-T (3-4 overall) this week in a conference battle for third place.
Brady Seiling made the most of his seven touches on Friday, fighting for 168 rushing yards and a pair of scores. The senior was joined by classmate Nate Schindler in the ‘100 club’, as Schindler collected 125 yards on 11 carries. The senior trio for the Red Hawks was rounded out by Warren Stoner, who had 58 yards and a score of his own.
Seiling led the home team on defense with eight-and-a-half tackles and a defensive score.
Altoona responded in the second quarter after Seiling ripped off a pair of long touchdown runs to open the scoring, each going for 70-plus yards. The Railroaders made it 14-7 on a four-yard run of their own, but the Red Hawks had a response.
Seiling added a pick-six to make it 28-7 just one minute after Stoner had made it a two-score game with a short punch run at the goal line, and G-E-T kept its offense going in the second half with two more scores on the ground. The Red Hawks threw the ball just twice in a game that saw the home team average nine yards per carry.
