Red Hawks split with Arcadia in week of seven games

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School legion baseball team played seven games in six days last week.
Post 354 split a pair of high octane games with Arcadia on Tuesday and edged West Salem 11-7 on Thursday. They suffered losses to both the Onalaska 19U and 17U teams on Saturday before closing the week with losses to Rochester and West Salem on Sunday.
The Red Hawks were scheduled to host Whitehall on Tuesday.
Arcadia 9 G-E-T 7
Arcadia used an explosive second inning to get past the host Red Hawks in game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
The Red Hawks put their rally caps on late but couldn’t come all the way back.
Owen Eddy scored on a passed ball at the plate in the first inning to open the scoring before Arcadia piled up six hits for seven runs in the second inning. Post 354 scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to get back into the game.
Connor Weltzien and Carson Martin (two) co-led the Raiders in hits. They finished with 11 as a team to outpace Post 354’s nine. Abe Henderson had a double for Arcadia, and G-E-T got three doubles.
Cole Williams led all players with three hits, while Eddy, Collin Handke and Brady Seiling all added two. Thomas Haney pitched all seven innings for G-E-T, striking out two batters and walking three. Arcadia had three pitchers combine for 11 strikeouts and nine walks.

Game two on Tuesday was much kinder to Post 354 despite another slow start.
Arcadia grabbed a four-run lead in the first inning, but the Red Hawks scored five runs in the second inning and added three more in the third.
The Red Hawks racked up the runs despite only having a pair of hits. They were helped by eight errors from Arcadia, which finished with five hits as a team. Weltzien and Eddy each had doubles for their clubs.
Eddy got the start for G-E-T, allowing five hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Three pitchers combined to throw 11 walks and one strikeout for Arcadia.
G-E-T 11 West Salem 7
A seven-run outburst in the fourth inning gave the Red Hawks a needed boost on Thursday.
Both teams finished with 10 hits. Eddy collected five of them for G-E-T, including a double. Handke, Jackson Burns, Ben Hansen and Warren Stoner split the nine innings on the mound and finished with six strikeouts and seven walks.
Onalaska 19U 9 G-E-T 1
The hosts dismantled Post 354 in the Red Hawks’ first game of a weekend tournament on Friday.
Three hits was all G-E-T could muster on offense, while Stoner allowed four hits to go with three strikeouts and five walks.
Onalaska 17U 11 G-E-T 6
Offense was more reliable for G-E-T against the younger Onalaska team on Saturday, but Onalaska scored 10 runs over the final three innings to take the win.
Eddy and Williams each finished 2 for 3. Eddy and Myles Marley pitched six innings, allowing nine hits and six walks. They struck out four Hilltoppers.
Rochester 13 G-E-T 7
A game that saw 22 hits ended in favor of Rochester to open Sunday’s games for G-E-T.
Eddy again had his way with the opposing pitcher, finishing 4 for 4 with a double. Handle, Williams and Brady pitched for the Red Hawks.
West Salem 9 G-E-T 4
A six-run fourth inning led to a revenge win for West Salem to close the week for the Red Hawks.
Five Red Hawks had hits in the effort. Oliver Marley started the game and finished with five strikeouts and a walk. He allowed 11 hits.
