Red Hawks sweep legion schedule

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau legion baseball team had a productive week.

Red Hawks Post 354 upended Holmen last Monday and swept Black River Falls in a home back-to-back on Wednesday.

Post 354 will hope to keep its win streak untarnished this week by visiting Onalaska on Monday, hosting West Salem on Wednesday and playing Bangor at home on Thursday. The Red Hawks will also play in a tournament in Viroqua over the weekend.

A sixth inning burst on Monday resulted in the first of three wins for the Red Hawks last week.

Owen Eddy brought in the tying run with a sacrifice fly, and teammates Cole Williams and Chris Wagner brought in two more runs on consecutive hits.

Wagner led Post 354 with his 3-for-3 showing. Williams hit two doubles and joined Collin Handke and Zach Grams as Red Hawks with a pair of hits.

Thomas Haney was the winning pitcher and allowed just two hits. Handke threw nearly five innings, allowing five hits and striking out three.

Twenty-one runs in two games was plenty of scoring for G-E-T against Black River Falls last Wednesday.

The opener began with a 7-0 lead for G-E-T through one inning and the hosts took over from that point—six different players recorded a hit in the game, which saw a double from Eddy and a triple from Warren Stoner.

Post 354 out-hit Black River Falls nine to four. Myles Marley sat down seven visiting batters with strikeouts and got the win, allowing three hits. 

The sequel to game one boasted a tighter score but kept its rush on offense.

Another late push by the Red Hawks and Williams gave the hosts a third consecutive win—Williams hit a single in the bottom of the fourth inning that scored Grams and Davis for the 6-5 lead, which held up as final.

Eddy pitched for G-E-T, allowing three hits and striking out eight opponents while walking three.
