Six Indees named to All-DC mat team

Six Independence/Gilmanton wrestlers were named to the All-Dairyland Conference wrestling team after the Indees won the DC title this winter.

The Indees went 3-0 in DC duals and had five wrestlers go undefeated in conference matches. Included in the All-DC team was 2023 state qualifier Gavin Bragger at 170 pounds, Jacobo Medina (285), Mason Gierok (160), Gabe Pietrek (145) and Owen Gierok (126), all of whom went 3-0 in conference competition. Andrew Bragger (220) also earned all-conference honors with a 2-1 record.

Six Blair-Taylor wrestlers were honored, including 2023 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Champion Jackson Shramek, who went 2-1 in DC competition — losing to I/G’s Bragger. Shramek found another gear in the postseason, however, winning the state title at 182 pounds.

Also honored for B-T was Billy Miller (132, 3-0), Ryan Flynn (138, 2-1), Ben Lien (160, 2-1), Bryan Rogstad (195, 3-0) and Dylan Elvaker (220, 3-0). 

Four Whitehall wrestlers were honored including Nolan Thompson (113, 2-1), Andy Flores (120, 3-0), Matthew Poulos (145, 3-0) and Eric Kleinhans (195, 2-1). This was the fourth time Kleinhans has been named to the All-DC team.

Making up the rest of the All-DC squad were wrestlers from Cochrane-Fountain City, including Deklan Lambert (106, 2-0), Noah Henderson (113, 3-0) and Abraham Henderson (152, 3-0).
