Sylla stands tall in Osseo
As the postseason creeps increasingly closer, Independence/Gilmanton’s Allie Sylla rang in October in impressive fashion with a win in Osseo.
Sylla was the lone runner to break the 20-minute mark in the girls’ 5,000-meter race at last Thursday’s Osseo-Fairchild Invitational, winning with a time of 19:58. The Indees had a pair of other top-15 finishes for the day: Anna Kent (21:01) in seventh and Sophia Kampa (21:55) in 13th. Shawnna Whitewater (30:27) also competed for I/G.
Arcadia’s Shayla Rodriguez (25:41) and Ashly Sandoval (25:56) placed 61st and 63rd, respectively, while Marleni Blas (28:31) and Shannon Cruz (29:07) were among the other runners for the Raiders at Osseo Golf Club.
Cameron posted a team score of 36 to finish atop the standings, 19 points ahead of Augusta (55) in second.
Arcadia’s Nathan Badillo put up a time of 18:07 to finish in 13th overall in the boys’ 5K race. Other Raider runners included Luque Emiliano (21:05) in 65th, Reese Kujak (21:08) in 68th and Brian Lorenzo (22:47) in 94th.
The Indee boys were led by Stian Howard (18:46) and Jaydan Harz (19:06) in 24th and 28th, respectively. I/G also had Maddox Pronschinske (21:39) in 76th, Carson Klimek (21:43) in 78th and James Wolfe (22:48) in 95th.
Augusta’s Zale Pettis was the race’s only runner to crack the 17-minute mark with a winning time of 16:54. Cameron won the boys’ team title by a slim margin, posting 46 points compared to 48 for runner-up Mondovi.
Arcadia will host the annual Gerald Holte Invitational on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. with a field set to also include Blair-Taylor and G-E-T. That same day, the Indees will be in Eau Claire for the Old Abe Invite at South Middle School starting at 10 a.m.
