Theisen’s 28 drives Red Hawks past Tigers

Due to the frigid winter weather, the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau boys basketball team only wound up playing one game last week. They made the most of that opportunity, crushing Black River Falls, 82-44, on the road.

The Red Hawks (13-2, 4-1 Coulee) breezed their way to a blowout win over the Tigers (7-5, 1-3) last Tuesday in BRF. That victory ran the winning streak to three for G-E-T, who stayed in last week’s Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll by slotting in at No. 10 in the D3 rankings.

G-E-T bulldozed its way to a 40-18 halftime lead and kept the pressure on over the final 18 minutes, outscoring the Tigers 42-26 in the second half.

Senior Travis Theisen dominated for the Red Hawks in the lopsided victory, scoring 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting (including going 6 of 8 from 3-point range) while hauling in six rebounds.

Additionally for G-E-T, sophomore Talon Fabian put up 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, senior Mason Brone posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 assists, junior Luke Herman tacked on eight points and six rebounds and senior Mitchell Thell recorded six points, seven rebounds and five assists.

As a team, the Red Hawks shot 49.3% from the field, 38.5% from deep and went 6 for 7 at the free-throw line.

G-E-T begins a stretch of six consecutive road games by playing Westby on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Bangor on Monday at 7 p.m.
