West Salem, Viroqua sweep G-E-T, volleyball playoffs near

The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau high school volleyball team lost two matches last week, the first to the team at
the top of the Coulee Conference hierarchy before losing in a rematch with another familiar opponent on
Thursday.
The conference continues to show improvement up and down the standings, and last week was the latest
evidence—the Panthers and Blackhawks both took down G-E-T (8-19 overall, 3-7 Coulee) in three straight sets.
Arcadia is preparing to host the Red Hawks this Tuesday before Westby visits G-E-T on Thursday.
Teams across the state are readying for the 2023 postseason, which begins next week.

The visiting Panthers (21-5 overall, 10-0 Coulee) continue to set the pace in the Coulee and are approaching an
undefeated conference schedule.
West Salem powered its way to a win in set one, limiting the hosts to 13 points.
Reece Sackett was one of West Salem’s most effective players in the match and contributed 13 kills and five
blocks. Leah Brigson added 16 digs and five aces for the visitors.
The second set proved to be a tighter rematch before the visitors put the match away with the sweep in set
three.
Kaylee Hauge was G-E-T’s best defender, providing seven digs. The Red Hawks’ Tatum Johnson matched
Brigson for the most aces (five). Amara Brantner finished with four kills.

The Blackhawks kept G-E-T from winning a set last week despite the Red Hawks keeping all three sets close.
Brynn Swenson had a match-best 12 kills for Viroqua, while Cadence Simmons (six) and Johnson (five) led G-E-
T in the same stat.
Hauge again paced the Red Hawks with 16 digs.
