Whitehall legion team drops first two games

Whitehall’s Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post 191 baseball team fell in its first two games last week.
Post 191 was competitive in both games early, but trailed off late as the opponents rallied for big innings.
Whitehall was scheduled to play at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau on Tuesday of this week and at home against Onalaska on Thursday and Tomah on Friday.
They’ll hit the road again next week, playing at Bangor this coming Tuesday before welcoming West Salem on Thursday.
Holmen 10 Whitehall 2
The team fell behind Holmen early as Post 284 took a 2-0 lead, scoring one run in each of the first two innings while Post 191 struggled defensively. One of the runs scored on a dropped fly ball. The Whitehall team cut the lead in half when Brandon Sylla — who played spring baseball for Independence/Gilmanton — blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the second.
But Whitehall couldn’t keep up, Holmen pulled away. No further information from the game was reported to the Times.
Osseo 6 Whitehall 5
Post 191 had a big lead against Osseo, but it didn’t last.
Whitehall scored two runs in the top of the second and three in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead, but it was all Osseo from there.
Post 324 scored one run in the bottom of the fourth, but Whitehall was still in control, leading 5-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. That’s when Osseo started hitting, scoring five runs — including the game-winner with two outs — in the final frame.
No further information from the game was reported to the Times.
