Wildcats tie Luther, beat Lincoln, fall to Alma/Pepin
The Blair-Taylor baseball team experienced a little bit of everything last week.
The Wildcats began the week with a 9-9 tie against Onalaska Luther on Monday. On Tuesday, the team put together a complete game in a 10-0 no-hitter against Alma Center Lincoln. On Friday, however, the Wildcats struggled at the plate in a 3-2 loss to Alma/Pepin.
At 4-3-1, the Wildcats hosted Augusta on Tuesday of this week before playing at AC Lincoln on Thursday and at home against Osseo-Fairchild Friday. This coming Tuesday, B-T plays at Eleva-Strum.
B-T 9 Luther 9
The Wildcats settled for a tie after the sunset in a non-conference game.
B-T trailed by two runs with two innings remaining, but one run scored on an error in the sixth and the team tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. However, the sunset and B-T’s home field doesn’t have lights, so the game was called a tie.
Kole Trapp had three hits for B-T while Ryan Oldendorf added two. Tavian Shramek batted in two runs as B-T worked for 13 walks while striking out eight times.
Brady Thompson tossed the first five innings, allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out four. Travis Pettis pitched the last two, striking out one while allowing one hit and two walks.
B-T 10 AC Lincoln 0
Shramek was just about perfect in the game, striking out 14 batters in a five-inning no-hitter.
The B-T ace was one walk and one error away from having a perfect game. He struck out two batters in the first inning then struck out every other batter he faced the rest of the game.
Shramek also scored B-T’s first run as he led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a double by Brayden Paulson. Pettis added a two-run single as B-T took a 6-0 lead after one inning.
B-T added another run in the third before Henry Miller doubled in one in the fifth and Trapp ended the game with a two-run single three batters later.
Shramek had two of B-T’s 10 hits and eight other players had one. Trapp and Pettis both batted in two runs.
A/P 3 B-T 2
It wasn’t a good Friday for the B-T baseball team, which managed just four hits in a loss to A/P just before Easter.
The Eagles took the lead for good in the second as they turned two walks and a single into two runs to go ahead 3-1.
Trapp doubled Shramek home in the top of the fifth to make it a one-run game, but that’s as close as B-T would get. B-T had a runner on in the top of the seventh as Shramek led off the inning with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a sacrifice fly, but a strikeout ended the game.
The Eagles threatened to add more runs in the fifth as the first two batters walked, but the Wildcats pulled off a triple play as pitcher Brady Thompson caught a line drive before throwing to first for the second out and Brayden Paulson threw to second for the third.
Shramek had three of B-T’s four hits.
Thompson took the loss on the mound, tossing six innings with six strikeouts, five walks and four hits allowed.
